There are defenders of both camps, some claiming that DivX is better, while others swear by Xvid. In terms of performance, there is no clear winner. It was then that a group of volunteer programmers started Xvid. Various delays with OpenDivX and the subsequent release of a closed-source commercial DivX 4 codec by DARC led to OpenDivX being forked. Since project access was later restricted, however, a member of the DivX Advanced Research Centre (DARC) created an improved version of the encoding core called encore2. The project was intended as a home for open source resources and initially, OpenDivX was an open-source MPEG-4 video codec based on the MoMuSys reference MPEG-4 encoder. Xvid originated in 2001 under the name OpenDivX, part of the Project Mayo founded by DivXNetworks. This means Xvid can be used on all compatible platforms and operating systems. One of the primary differences between the two is probably the fact that while DivX is proprietary software owned by DivX, Inc., Xvid is distributed under the GPL free software license. However, when the three heroes discover the true intentions of the SEAS, they have to rally all the parallel world's warring inhabitants in order to defeat the SEAS.DivX is considered to be the main competitor of Xvid. Jarvis Babbit decides to send the three scientists into 'Paraworld', seemingly for an expedition.
When they subsequently learned that people don't age in this dimension and that the concept of electricity is inexistant, they decided to remain there to rule.Later, three young scientists are led to Jarvis Babbit: the Americangeologist Anthony Cole, Swedishbiologist Stina Holmlund, and Hungarian physics genius Béla András Benedek, all of whom having discovered elements in the 'real' world that point toward the existence of a parallel world. A group of 19th-century scientists, the SEAS (the Society of Exact Alternative Science) led by scientific genius Jarvis Babbit, discovered the parallel world where dinosaurs and primitive human tribes coexist. ParaWorld ('parallel world') is an alternate universe where dinosaurs and ice age creatures never became extinct.
